Life can be challenging in the best of times, but unexpected bumps along the way or long-standing issues never fully addressed, can often be added stressors which are calling for your attention.

Trauma.  Relationship complications.  Looming decisions.  Pet loss.  Emotional struggles.  Physical pain.  State of the world angst.  Existential quandaries.  Anxiety.  Depression.

The above issues are only some of what drives people to seek counseling.  Whatever your reason(s) for seeking psychotherapy, that decision can be the beginning of creating a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled life in the ways that matter most, to you.

Being able to guide people in their quest to live the lives they envision for themselves, the lives they are meant to live, is the reason I chose this profession.  For me, nothing is more satisfying than:  guiding a couple through a rough patch; being able to help someone deal with their trauma (PTSD or complex trauma); helping a client devise the best strategies for dealing with a life transition such as retirement, the birth of a new child or becoming an empty nester, marriage, a new job or loss of a job, a breakup; grief; offering support when facing the loss of a pet; witnessing depression lifting; anxiety being overcome.

My therapeutic style is direct and eclectic.  I have been influenced by various therapeutic approaches, including:  Psychodynamic, Somatic Experiencing, Hypnotherapy, Cognitive/Behavioral, Ecotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and Existentialism.  I believe we must look not only inside ourselves for what ails us but also, to our relationship with the world around us.  I work with people who are grappling with a wide variety of issues including, but not limited to:

Couples Therapy

If you’re looking to rekindle love, intimacy, and understanding in your relationship, then it’s probably time to consider looking for a couples therapist in NYC.  Couples therapy can help you develop more effective communication skills to resolve conflicts by learning how to listen more deeply, express yourselves more clearly, and make repairs to ruptures. Couples therapy considers your attachment histories and any underlying trauma which might be interfering with the two of you fostering a deeper emotional bond, a bond of love and understanding in your relationship. A compassionate therapist can help you navigate challenges together with the goal of emerging as a more resilient, loving, and united couple.

Pet Loss

Pet loss can be one of the most challenging and gut-wrenching emotional experiences we can have. With the support of a professional counselor in NYC, you’ll be better able to navigate the grieving process, discovering ways to deal with the difficult emotions that often arise. Working with a compassionate counselor who understands the depth of your pain  can help you cope with your loss, find ways to heal, and ultimately, rebuild your life, all while honoring  your pet’s memory. You don’t need to experience this profound sorrow alone.

Trauma

Trauma can impact so many different parts of our lives beginning with how we view ourselves, how we relate to others, and the choices we make, or don’t make, in our lives. Traumatic symptoms, can derive from a one-time event, such as a car crash or physical assault (PTSD) or be the result of cumulative experiences in our childhood or adult life (complex trauma). Trauma can manifest in physical and/or psychological symptoms that disrupt lives and rob people of hope for the future. Working with a counselor can help people process their trauma so they no longer have to remain stuck in thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that do not serve them well.  Depression and anxiety do not have to define who you are and dictate how you live your life.

Life Transitions

As the saying goes, nothing lasts forever. Life is filled with change, whether of our own doing or imposed upon us by others and/or circumstances.  Over a lifetime, most people experience some kind of change such as in their romantic relationships, with their children, their aged parents, their careers/jobs, where they live, and/or their health. Oftentimes these transitions occur without complications, but when difficulties arise, it's good to know you have recourse to a therapist who can help you work things through.  I can help you navigate these challenges in the least disruptive way.

Veganism

Being a vegan in a non-vegan world can be not only challenging, but emotionally fraught. Working with a therapist who understands the philosophy and lifestyle of veganism, as well as common triggers, can be quite beneficial.
